Abstract
The importance of motivation at work cannot be overemphasized, more so, in the military service. This study therefore investigated the influence of burnout on motivation of the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCOs) in Nigerian Army School in Ojo Cantonment. The data for the study was collected using cross-sectional survey design from 408 Non-Commissioned Officer (NCOs), comprising 288 male and 120 female that were selected by purposive sampling technique. The result indicated that the hypothesis which stated that there will be significant influence of burnout on motivation was not significant (t = -1.568, df (406), P>0.5), which negate most existing studies. Reasons for this difference was situated within the context NCOs’ job, which might likely encourage a social support structure so as to mitigate burnout caused by the job. It was therefore suggested that variation in culture, organisation, and individual factors might be responsible for the contrary findings; and can be the focus of future studies.
