Abstract
This study explores the vital link between employee discipline and organisational performance, focusing on the non-teaching staff at the University of Benin. Guided by three key research questions, a comprehensive review of relevant literature was conducted to provide a solid foundation for the investigation. Employing a descriptive survey research design, the study gathered insights through a structured questionnaire distributed to 367 non-academic staff members using the simple random sampling technique. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics—frequency counts, percentages, means, and standard deviation—while a correlation analysis was employed to test the relationship between the variables. The findings underscore the critical role of discipline in fostering a high-performance work environment. When employees adhere to clear behavioral expectations, accountability, professionalism, commitment thrives, ultimately driving institutional success. Based on these findings, the study recommends the establishment of well-defined policies on employee conduct, performance benchmarks, and disciplinary measures. Furthermore, a structured disciplinary framework, complemented by ongoing training and professional development initiatives, can help address disciplinary challenges and enhance overall organisational efficiency.
