Human Resource Strategies for Effective Administration of Agricultural Research Institutions in Nigeria

Abstract
Effective administration of human resources (HR) in an organization plays an important role in supporting changes and decision-making that often results in significant innovations. Several studies have been examining HR management especially as it relates to practices that may contribute to greater results in an organization. Effective management of individuals and teams with the aim of supporting organizations capacity to provide tools to support strategic decision-making that results in innovation is the focus of agricultural research institution’s human resource management strategies. This article reviews recent intellectual strategies and trends reported in literature on the development of human resource management (HRM) that result in innovations that support agriculture, food and nutrition security in a changing climate. It is intended that this article provide theoretical perspectives that will support administrators of national agricultural research institutions (NARIs) in developing countries especially in Nigeria to successfully organize human resources available in their organizations, develop strategies along human behaviors and putting administrative principles to achieve sustainable HRM that support innovation and technology delivery.
