The Role of Stakeholders in Employee Retention and Resultant Effects on Employee Behaviour: A Literature Review

Abstract
This study examines the roles of stakeholders in employee retention viv-a-vis its resultant effects on employee behaviour. A desktop study approach was employed as the methodology by reviewing existing literature on employee retention, stakeholder engagement, and organizational behaviour from where the study identified human resource department, leaders (unit heads), management, and employees as the major stakeholders in the formulation and implementation of human resource management activities towards employee retention. Findings reveal the essential roles played by human resource department, unit heads, management, and employees in retaining competent employee through appropriate strategies and behavioural action. It was found that effective stakeholder engagement, supportive leadership, and human resource practices without bias and prejudice are essential for promoting employee satisfaction, dedication, loyalty, commitment, and retention. The study concludes that a collaborative effort from all stakeholders will create a positive work environment and normative behaviour driving business success, long-term organizational health and growth.
